"Sword and Sorcerer" series are rare these days. This one is based on the fantasy novel series "Sword of Truth" and shot in New Zealand. Visually it echoes the Rennaisance productions, Xena, Hercules and Young Hercules. Very well produced sets and costumes with excellent sfx that are not overdone. The cast is a mixture of "new" and established actors.

The first two episodes, shown back-to-back, tell how woodsman Richard Cypher becomes The Seeker (of Truth), bearer of the Sword of Truth. In doing so he teams up with Confessor Kahlan Amnell and wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander to fight evil, Darken Rahl in particular.

Xena and Herc fans will have fun trying to recognize familiar cast and those fabulous shooting locations (mostly around Auckland with alpine shots from South Island). Yes, Kahlan runs down the very sands in the Bethell Valley where Herc and Iolaus walked off into the sunset. Loved the bright yellow post in Waiti Stream (next to dying Dennee) that looked anything but ancient!
