An excellent tv movie loosely based on Bill Shakespeare's "The Tempest", really. It's set in the bayous of Mississippi during the Civil War. After his brother tries to kill him and take over the plantation, Gideon Prosper, his daughter Miranda, and freed slave Ariel make home on an island in the swamps. Gideon had been taught voodoo magic by Ariel's mother and spends much of his time practicing the black art.

Everything changes when the Union army tries to cross the Mississippi. Miranda (16 years old) helps a Union captain after he escapes rebel clutches and falls in love. Gideon tries to keep things unchanged but then his brother shows up to address unfinished business.

This is one of Katherine's less-seen movies. I've only seen it air in French. A fine cast led by Peter Fonda. In the pics you will find Peter Fonda / Gideon Prosper, John Glover / Anthony Prosper, Harold Perrineau / Ariel, Katherine Heigl / Miranda Prosper, John Pyper-Ferguson / Gator Man, Eddie Mills / Captain Frederick Allen and Dennis Redfield / Wilfried "Willy" Gonzo. However, mostly Katherine!
