A s the Beast Planet emerges from the sun, it fires at the Battle Moons with a null energy sphere. One moon is obliterated and debris showers the other moons and the fleet. Jade orders full power to shields. The rest of the fleet is shaken by the attack. As the Alliance regroup, Graveheart considers how to fight the Beast Planet. Princess Tekla is the only member who had fought the Beast Planet before but she is still on Planet Ice.

Tekla continues wandering inside Planet Ice. Rounding a corner she comes face to face with an ice spider. She draws her pistol and prepares to fire. A hand reaches from behind and touches her shoulder. Tekla turns to find the Lady Zera. Tekla asks how Zera found her. Zera points to Tekla's footprints on the ice. Tekla aims her pistol again but Zera tells her not to fire. The spider is harmless and an endangered species. Tekla spurns Zera's intent to help and orders her to safety. Zera is not deterred and counters with her knowledge of the planet. They pass the spider, Tekla staying well clear.

Zera updates Tekla on what had happened off-world. Tekla staggers against a column when she realizes the Beast is already there. They rush off. Later they walk into some more tunnels but are not alone. Zera asks what Tekla is looking for, which Tekla really doesn't know.

They come to an ice bridge over a deep chasm. Zera starts across before Tekla can stop her. The bridge immediately breaks apart. Zera manages to cross with a few leaps but the bridge is gone. Tekla then takes a run and leaps the gap. She lands on the edge and totters backwards. Zera reaches out and pulls Tekla to safety.

The duo continue searching. A roar is heard which Zera recognizes, ice fleas. They run but are encircled. Tekla shoots three of them but then an ice flea freezes her with nannonite fog. Before Zera can react, she too is frozen. The ice fleas move away and two of them lock heads. It gives Zera time to blast away the ice with her pistol. She frees Tekla and they just escape the ice fleas. In danger of being caught, Tekla makes a desperate dive and shoots the tunnel roof as she falls. The ice fleas are buried.

The Alliance fleet regroups among the debris of the Battle Moon. Half of the fleet has been destroyed in the battles. Prince Pyrus thinks they should contact Emperor Femur. The idea does not sit well with Jade. Graveheart says that if Femur thinks he can stand against the Beast he has a hard think coming.

Down on Planet Bone, Femur frets that Pelvus has not been able to contact Lamprey to make a deal. Pelvus refers Femur to a more urgent matter. The Bone Warriors are upset at running from battle. Two warriors stride up behind Pelvus. It smacks of another Pelvus scheme to get rid of Femur. Femur's tone changes to fear and he backs away. Pelvus suggests Femur sits in his throne to relax. Lucky for Femur he does not. Behind the throne is a nasty multi-limbed assassin.

Pelvus brings Femur a tempting cannolis. Femur is not in the mood but closer inspection of the wriggling delicacy is too tempting. Femur picks it up and bites off the head. Almost immediately he spits it out (not to his taste) and tosses the rest in the air. Pelvus looks on in sheer terror as the cannolis lands on the throne. Knowing what comes next, Pelvus runs for his life. The cannolis is immediately skewered by knives from below and then sliced and diced by the multi-limbed assassin behind the throne.

As Pelvus leaves the hall, a membrane closes the exit. Femur is trapped. Multiple explosions break out and a giant blade swings down. Femur runs for his life with laser tracers whipping around him. A giant weight just misses. Outside, Pelvus hears the commotion. It's such a sad end for the emperor. As he sarcastically sympathizes with Femur's predicament, the membrane bursts open and Femur rushes out with his bottom on fire. Femur finds some liquid to sit in and quench himself. Pelvus immediately grovels to save his skin.

The Beast Planet closes in on Planet Fire. The Beast opens to release swarms of Beast Marauders. King Cryos orders the Ice fleet to regroup around Planet Ice. As Graveheart asks Pyrus to move his fleet between Ice and Rock, the Grand Vizier breaks in with the news they are under overwhelming attack. Pyrus decides to take his fleet home. Cryos and Graveheart agree to follow.

The Beast Planet fires another sphere of null energy at the Battle Moon that Graveheart and Jade are in. Jade orders all shields to focus at the impact point. There is a huge collision but the moon is safe. The deflected energy heads for Planet Ice. Graveheart orders the fleet to stop it at all costs. They cannot. Cryos calls off the attacks and resigns himself to the end of his world and his daughter.

Tekla's instruments show that they are close to what they are searching for. They find themselves in a large gallery dotted with columns in a circle. Tekla recognizes it from Lamprey's mind. Zera is unimpressed. As Tekla strokes one of the columns, Zera wanders to the centre of the circle. A flash and Zera is gone. Tekla walks into the circle looking for Zera. Another flash and Tekla disappears.

Tekla finds herself in the dark. Zera appears close by. They have been teleported but how or where they don't know. A distant clunk, whirr and the place lights up. They are still in a ring of vertical slabs but now they are in rainbow colours. An outer ring of yellow slabs is at some distance. Voxx can only identify the technology as unknown.

Zera reaches out and triggers the machine. A warning is given of impending impact. They don't know what to do but the machine recommends maximum thrust until the planet is clear. The machine to be started is the World Engine. Tekla is puzzled but orders it so. The rings start in motion. On the planet surface an atmospheric integrity shield is released. Giant nozzles break from the surface and the engines start up. Zera and Tekla clutch each other as the machine reaches maximum thrust.

Up above, the mood is grim. Then Graveheart realizes that Planet Ice is moving."By the glacier, how..." exclaims Cryos. Graveheart knows that it must be Tekla. The null energy sphere shoots past Planet Ice. The Alliance warriors are jubilant. They head for Planet Ice, knowing they now have a chance against the Beast.

this is the way the world ends

T he Beast Planet heads for Planet Fire. Alliance craft attack the planet but make little impression. The planet is not being slowed. Battle moons arrive as reinforcements. The Beast Planet swings out its huge arms. Hits from the moons hardly dent the planet. One of the moons finds itself lined up with one of the Beast's weapons. The moon is obliterated in a stream of purple energy.

The Alliance, minus Emperor Femur, are seated round the Great Table on Planet Fire. The Grand Vizier is trying to blame the impending threat on the Alliance. Prince Pyrus rejects his claim. Graveheart lends support but Jade is angered and thumps the table, glaring at the Vizier. Pyrus finally has to remind the Vizier that he is the prince. Graveheart emphasizes they have to be a team.

Princess Tekla walks into the room. She and Voxx have found energy readings on Planet Fire similar to those on Planet Ice. There is a world engine on Planet Fire. Pyrus is jubilant. The Vizier asks what they are talking about and so Voxx provides a holodisplay of Planet Ice powered by its engines. Graveheart adds that both Planet Rock and Bone are now on the move. The Vizier is still gloom and doom.

Graveheart hears of the battle moon's destruction and orders retreat. They have to evacuate the people of Fire to the battle moons. Jade heads off to fetch the rest of the battle moons and organize the evacuation. Graveheart and Tekla are to find the world engine. Pyrus wants to go along but Graveheart says that Pyrus' duty is with his people. The Vizier puts his hand on Pyrus' shoulder. Pyrus runs after Graveheart and expresses complete trust in him. The planet is rocked by the Beast Planet attack. The Beast is so close its gravity begins to pull Fire apart.

The Beast Planet starts to block out the sun. Blue lightning flashes across the red landscape. Tekla, Graveheart and Pyrus stand outside the palace gazing up. The trio run for the palace entrance where the Vizier is waiting. A lightning bolt strikes a statue and the fragments fall towards Pyrus. Graveheart makes a dive and manages to protect Pyrus. The Vizier pulls Pyrus from the rubble. Graveheart is trapped. Tekla struggles to dig him out. As he lies helpless, Graveheart looks up at the Beast Planet. Its jaws are opening up. Graveheart gets free and instructs Pyrus to evacuate everyone. The Vizier sees that Graveheart cares for Pyrus.

As Graveheart and Tekla head off to find the world engines, Pyrus starts to organize. He asks the Vizier if he is coming. The Vizier excuses himself and heads after Graveheart and Tekla. Graveheart and Tekla find a hole in a wall that has been blasted recently. They pass into the chamber behind and find the same slab circle as on Planet Ice. Following Voxx's light they stand in the centre and disappear in a flash of light. They find themselves in the rainbow slab circle of the world engine. It is located in a vast chamber at the centre of the planet.

Graveheart sees what had blasted the hole - Beast drones. Graveheart and Tekla blast away at the drones. Unknown to them, the Vizier now stands in the world engine. He hides behind one of the slabs. Graveheart finds that the drones damaged some of the slabs. Tekla tries to communicate with the computer. Silence. Voxx flies up and directs a repair beam on the damage. Voxx announces probability of repair "55.6%" . Voxx continues repairs.

Jade arrives with the battle moons. On the planet surface, Pyrus talks to his people via the flame communicators. They have to leave but they will prevail in the end. Off-air, Pyrus is alone in the Throne Chamber. The population are shuttled off Fire to the battle moons. From there, the Beast Planet can be seen dominating Fire.

Pyrus stands on the palace verandah looking out over the planet. Captain Blaze implores the prince to leave. Pyrus scoops up some of the molten lava and puts it in a container. After checking that his people are safe, Pyrus goes into the Throne Room. Blaze follows. Pyrus seats himself on the throne and presses a button that transforms the room into a space craft. They fly to a battle moon and dock. Pyrus takes out the collected lava and throws it into one of the lava pools in the Throne Room. The lava pools burst into flame.

Tekla finally gets the computer online and orders the world engines engaged at maximum thrust. The atmospheric integrity shield and gravity matrix are activated. The computer starts to garble and suddenly it cuts back thrust to minimum. The Beast Planet releases the world claw which outpaces Planet Fire.

TheVizier announces his presence. Graveheart has failed to protect the planet. The Vizier orders them off his world. Reluctantly Graveheart and Tekla leave. The Vizier gives final orders to the computer.

Graveheart and Tekla join Pyrus. Jade and King Cryos appear in two flame communicators. Jade announces the end of Planet Fire has begun. The meeting of the Beast and Fire planets can be seen on another flame communicator. Tekla sees that Fire is moving towards the Beast. Jade exclaims that it is going to ram the Beast.

At that moment the Vizier appears on a flame communicator. Pyrus is aghast to find the Vizier is not safe on a battle moon. The Vizier explains that Pyrus has become everything he could have wished for and that he has good friends around him. He admits he was wrong about them. Cryos tells him to escape while there is time. The Vizier declines his old enemy's request. Pyrus orders the Vizier to leave but it is too late. They reach toward each other as communication fades.

Planet Fire hits the edge of the world claw which is knocked back into the Beast Planet. The Beast Planet closes over Planet Fire.

period of adjustment

O ver Planet Bone, Beast and Bone fighters dogfight. In a tunnel beneath the surface, Emperor Femur is heading for the Command Room, accompanied by a guard of Bone warriors. Femur babbles about the role his empire is playing and the constant attempts on his life by Pelvus. A warrior points out that should Pelvus succeed, he would rule - perhaps with more honour than Femur. "You snag the throne, you rule on Bone, the guy who dies is food for flies". Femur notices the guards hanging back and tells them to stay close. They decline. Femur disappears through a hole in the floor of the tunnel. He falls into a cavern below.

Femur orders the computer to override defence protocols but Pelvus has locked them. A sound in the dark. A ferocious worm-like creature appears, it's large mouth open. A number of creatures move in and surround Femur. Femur fends off the creatures with a long bone from a previous victim. He points his arm up and fires a harpoon bolt. The bolt embeds in the roof of the tunnel and Femur is whisked up on the attached cable. The worms snap up at him but miss. The warriors run for their lives.

Back on Planet Ice, Prince Pyrus is reviewing the collision between Planet Fire, the World Claw and the Beast Planet, looking for weaknesses. Graveheart approaches. Graveheart offers help in consoling the prince on the loss of the Grand Vizier. Pyrus responds that he must now stand on his own. He projects a flaming image on the the ceiling to salute the Vizier.

Graveheart and Pyrus find King Cryos and Jade looking over some data on the computer. Cryos and Jade announce disturbing news. They will run out of food in a week. Jade reminds Graveheart that lack of food was why they used to raid Bone for lichen. Cryos suggests they use supplements in addition to the existing supplies. He offers a plate of food garnished with fireweed. Graveheart tries a morsel. After a few seconds, his face turns red, he coughs, splutters and quickly downs a drink. Jade asks who's next.

Pelvus is not going to starve. He munches on a pile of squirming canolis. He's petrified to hear the accusations of Femur behind him. Pelvus kow tows as usual despite being caught red-handed. Femur picks up a drink on a table and hands it to a warrior standing behind him to sample. Pelvus makes it clear that the warriors and populace are still disgruntled about Femur turning his back on the Alliance. Just as Femur is about to take a sip from the drink, the warrior gags and drops down dead. Femur snatches the newspaper from Pelvus and head's off to the "little throne room". Pelvus has a sly smile.

Enthroned Femur says to himself that Pelvus went too far this time - he already did the crossword puzzle. There's a ticking sound. Boom. Femur picks himself up from the ruins. Femur is now convinced that making up with the Alliance may be the only way to save his skin.

Some time later, the Clavicle approaches Planet Rock. Femur practices his upcoming diplomacy by getting Pelvus to play the part of Lord Mantel. Femur will play his charming self. After Femur's opener, "Lord Mantel" orders the intruders destroyed. Femur is mad and tells Pelvus his acting stinks.

In the Great Hall of Planet Rock, Femur does his intro but the reaction he gets is the same as portrayed by Pelvus as "Lord Mantel". "Destroy these pathetic intruders!" Guards close in on Femur and Pelvus. Femur warns them to stay away. Pelvus opens his jacket to reveal a large amount of explosives. Lord Mantel sighs and sits down on the throne. Instead of killing them, he will have them beaten. Pelvus grovels. Beating completed, the pair are kicked out on to the planet's surface.

Femur and Pelvus lick their wounds as they head back to Bone. As they talk, Femur lassos Pelvus' leg and hoists him into the air. He jiggles Pelvus up and down until a shower of weapons fall out of Pelvus' pockets and land on the ground. The last item is a stuffed "Femur" voodoo doll complete with pins in appropriate places. Femur asks what Pelvus was planning to do. For once Pelvus is honest and says he was planning to eliminate Femur and rule. Femur can empathize and says it's good to get it out in the open. Pelvus is released. He wryly terms it a "bonding moment". Brothers in treachery. Femur orders him to set course for Planet Ice. Pelvus picks up his knife and creeps up behind Femur. Femur tells him to "leave it right there". Pelvus skulks off to do his duties.

Back on Planet Ice, food tasting continues. Next supplement is ice fleas from Planet Ice. Pyrus takes some food and a few fleas. Cryos asks Jade if she removed the eggs before preparing the lice. "Eggs, what eggs?" Pyrus spits out the food all over Cryos and spits every last morsel on the floor. It's Cryos' turn for food garnished with rock salts. Graveheart warns about breaking a tooth but too late.

Jade offers to take a raiding party to Bone to gather food. Graveheart refuses. They do not want to return to the old ways of plundering planets. Pyrus adds that his people would take nothing from treacherous Bone anyway.

Femur and Pelvus arrive on Ice and are escorted before Cryos. Cryos is surprised to see them. Femur gives his "just passing by, old buddy" routine. Cryos orders them seized. Pelvus suggests Femur change his opening lines. Graveheart, Jade and Pyrus join the group. Graveheart is surprised; Jade wants to tear the lizards apart. Femur inflames the situation with a kissy kissy routine. Cryos holds Jade back.

Femur offers to rejoin the Alliance, all mistakes forgiven. Femur tries to make out that he did nothing but good for the Alliance. His desertion during the battle at Ramora he classified as a scouting mission. His words are rejected by Cryos. With glares from the gathered, Femur gives up and plans to head back to Bone. He's sad he could not see Pyrus. Graveheart mentions that Pyrus is not there because he's on the lead battle moon.

On the battle moon where the people of Fire are living, Pyrus wanders the streets. He comes across two warriors fighting over a plate of food. Pyrus is appalled and intervenes. The warriors are ashamed. Pyrus takes the food and gives it to a child nearby. Up walks Femur. Pyrus is not pleased to see him. Femur apologizes, a first, and they make up. Pyrus hugs Femur and Femur immediately starts to steam from the heat. Pyrus casually mentions their food shortage. Femur's eyes light up.

Femur's plan of redemption swings into action. The Clavicle flies over Planet Ice. Femur orders the pod bay doors opened and food packages dumped out. The packages descend slowly on spinning parachutes. As they fall, Pelvus notes that the parachutes will freeze in the atmosphere and freefall. Femur puts his hand on head.

The food packages plummet down to the surface. They hit with great force, destroying what they hit and splattering food everywhere. Spider tanks shoot some while in the air. When the deluge is over, ice warriors pick themselves up and clean the food off.

Femur and Pelvus land and survey the mess. Jade, Graveheart, Pyrus and Cryos stand nearby, covered in food. Graveheart declares the food emergency over. Cryos notes that Femur is not dressed in a style to match his peers. Pyrus, juggling a glob of food, says that if Femur wants back in the Alliance, an initiation is needed. Femur momentarily protests but is hit by the food. The group join in and pelt Femur and Pelvus with food. Bone is back in the Alliance.

a blaze of glory

T he Alliance fleet is assembled above Planet Rock, this time with the ships of Bone. Below the surface of Rock in the Control Core, Jade is sat at a console. Graveheart enters, sees Jade at work and asks if their lives have become all work and no play. For the first time they have time to relax. Jade asks what Graveheart had in mind. They move together and their mouths approach, but then an alarm goes off. Distress signal from Battle Moon 5, the lead moon where Prince Pyrus and Emperor Femur are.

Panic on Battle Moon 5. Everywhere is in darkness apart from the red warning lights. Femur protests his innocence. Pyrus asks a quarrior what is happening. It's an overload in the battle moon core. Femur is all for running to the escape pods but Pyrus' duty is to stay and ensure his people get off the moon. Femur runs to catch up with Pyrus, rueing being one of the "good guys".

Pyrus arrives at the Control Room with Femur panting behind. Pyrus opens the door to an amazing sight. The Igneous Knights are having a celebration. Pyrus asks who's in charge. One of the knights turns and takes off his helmet. It's Captain Blaze. Pyrus states the grave situation. Blaze responds that he and his knights have the situation under control. Pyrus demands to know what is going on. Blaze says they've lost their planet and honour and now it is time to regain both. They will exact revenge on the Beast Planet itself. Pyrus realizes the core emergency was a hoax to clear the battle moon. Pyrus tries to cool heads to no avail. Femur pesters for them to leave immediately. The battle moon fires up its engines and departs Planet Rock.

On Planet Rock, Lord Mantel rants at King Cryos over supposed lies and broken promises. Graveheart and Jade appear at the entrance to the Great Hall. Mantel fumes at Graveheart and wishes he had been less generous with Femur. They return to the Aurora cruiser. Scans of Battle Moon 5 shows no sign of problems. The warnings were faked. They see the moon heading off but cannot gain control of it due to jamming. Graveheart is to investigate but Mantel arrives and forbids it. Graveheart is not considered a citizen of Rock, just the Alliance. Jade speaks up but is shouted down by Mantel. As Captain of the Guard she can do nothing but Mantel's bidding. Jade will lead the forces against the battle moon.

Pyrus tries to reason with Blaze. Blaze cannot be shamed into giving up. He overcomes Pyrus and puts him to sleep with gas. Femur offers minimal resistance. Blaze orders Pyrus taken to the escape pod, much to Femur's joy. That is short lived. Blaze will not allow Femur to leave. Femur protests he does not want to be a hero. Blaze says it's a chance to atone for past deeds. Femur is unmoved and boasts having "raised cowardice to an art form". The Beast Armada is spotted.

Frustrated Graveheart can only watch from the Control Core. Cryos has bad news from the tactical display. The Beast Armada is on a direct course to the battle moon.

In the armada, Blokk relishes another chance to cast aside the pain he suffered at Voyd's hands and redeem himself for the loss of Ramora.

The escape pod that Pyrus is in is retrieved by Jade's ship. Jade contacts Planet Rock to announce Pyrus is OK and Femur is being held by the Fire troops. Cryos says that limits the options. Mantel dismisses Femur's predicament as unimportant. Pelvus interrupts with a small suggestion.

Blokk orders the attack, "show no mercy" . As the tachyon marauders sweep over Battle Moon 5, the moon's guns open their cupolas and commence firing. In turn the Beast's Grimm Armada blast the moon with energy beams. There are hits and losses on both sides. Femur calls for "Mummy". The battle moon's own energy beam cuts up the Beast Armada. Blokk signals the retreat. The Igneous Knights are jubilant. Femur points out they have yet to face the Beast Planet.

On Planet Rock there is some relief the Beast Armada has been sent packing. Pelvus says they now have to deal with the renegades. As Femur is no longer around, Pelvus has his title, Emperor Pelvus. He suggests, with crocodile tears, that the moon, Fire troops, and yes, Femur have to be obliterated. Cryos points out doing that will reduce their chances of survival.

Pyrus pilots an Arrowhead with Jade towards the battle moon. He talks with Blaze. Blaze says what he is doing is out of love and loyalty to the Prince and his people. He won't obey they Prince however. Just then, a taunting Blokk appears on the communicator. An all-out battle starts between the forces from Rock and the Beast Armada.

When the news is received on Rock, Graveheart orders Cryos to scramble the rest of the Alliance fleet. He will see if the remaining battle moons can help. Graveheart is stopped in his tracks by Mantel and thrown to the ground. Mantel warns him to stay away from the controls. Mantel asserts his authority over Graveheart, who can do nothing against his king. Cryos stands up and towers over Mantel. He has no inhibitions about striking Mantel and orders him to stand aside. Mantel does so. Graveheart gets all the battle moons online. They rush to help Jade.

Battle Moon 5 closes on the Beast Planet. There is no word of Pyrus, he is feared lost. Blaze's crew ask for orders.

In the melee, Jade and Pyrus are struggling to survive. They do not expect to last long. The Grimm Armada in front of them bursts into pieces, much to their surprise. Jade looks up to see a battle moon. Blaze appears on the communicator "Captain Blaze reporting for duty Your Highness". Pyrus pumps his fist. With the help of the moon, the Beast Armada is decimated. Blokk whimpers, "Oh no, not again. Retreat". Blaze cackles.

Pyrus thanks Blaze. "The honour was all mine ". Femur cries uncontrollably. "I want my mummy".

Back on Planet Rock, Pelvus consoles Pyrus. Cryos has persuaded Mantel to be more flexible. Graveheart asks after Jade and is told she's in the Control Core. He sets off to find her.

Jade and Mantel talk over the communicator. Mantel asks if she is going to live up to her part of their bargain. She agrees. Just then Graveheart arrives. Jade denies she was making a call, just reviewing some old files. Graveheart tries to resume where they left off in the Control Core but Jade excuses herself to do her rounds. Graveheart is left wondering.

sandstorm

T he Alliance fleet passes by Planet Sand. Graveheart, Jade, King Cryos and The Lady Zera depart the Aurora in a bladewing to warn the inhabitants of the impending danger from the Beast Planet. Zera enquires why they could not call the planet and warn them. Cryos explains that they have no known form of communication. As they approach they pass over a huge face carved into the surface. It turns out to be sand piled against walls.

Jade is the first out of the bladewing. She is uneasy. Jade stays behind for ship security. The others head across the sand toward strange structures hovering in the sky. Unknown to them, they are being watched. They reach the top of a dune and look down on a city below. When they reach the gates they meet a pair of huge hairy beings, Sand People, who saunter off at their approach, ignoring Zera's introduction.

A procession appears, made up of the large beasts accompanying a very small skinny person in a mechanical suit, one of the Sun People. With a hearty "Hello", Ramset, Speaker of the Sun People welcomes them to the City of the Sun. He asks who the leader is. Graveheart hesitantly steps forward. Ramset orders the "servants" to remain where they are. Zera indignantly exclaims they are not servants. Graveheart adds they are all equals. Ramset is amazed, he wished they had equals but all they have are the Sand People. It is clear the Sun People are arrogant. Cryos and Graveheart explain their mission to warn of the dangers and offer the Alliance. They head off for the Council Room.

As they march into the city, Zera tries to talk to one of the Sand People, Zuma. The only response is a grunt. Ramset ridicules the idea of talking to them, they are just domesticated animals. Zuma turns to Zera and her eyes flash.

Back in the bladewing, Jade is having communication problems. A sandstorm whips up. In the gloom Jade sees some shadowy figures. They disappear.

In the Council Room, Ramset accepts a goblet from a servant. Graveheart and friends decline. Graveheart describes the danger of the Beast Planet. Ramset dismisses the idea, Planet Sand is the only world. Cryos asks where he thinks they came from. Ramset thought they were pilgrims from a distant land. He's not receptive to the story about the Beast Planet but asks what they could do about it. Cryos describes the planet's World Engine, much to the amusement of Ramset. Ramset leaves them to do his duties. To the side, Zera and Zuma exchange glances.

The trio follow Zuma. Zera asks her father who speaks for the Sand People. They can't let them die just because Ramset will do nothing. Graveheart suggests they find the telepod and World Engine.

Out in space, Blokk and his fleet hover ready to attack Planet Sand. They have not been detected. He commands his scouts attack.

Above the City of the Sun, one of the hovering structures blows up. The Beast drone attack has begun. The drones fire on the city and drop null matter pods on the outskirts. The pods transform into Beast drones on jet hovercraft. Zera urges Zuma to take cover but gets no reaction. Zera tries to drag Zuma, a hopeless task. Cryos returns fire with success. Graveheart receives a transmission from Jade, just as the bladewing swoops over the city and destroys several Beast drones. One drone closes in on them. Graveheart dives across Zuma to protect her and fires on target as he falls. Zera also downs a Beast Marauder, which impresses her father.

As Jade continues her dogfighting, she hears from Pyrus who is with the fleet. He warns of Beast ships in the vicinity. The fleet is setting out to assist. The Beast drone scouting party retreats.

They have another audience with Ramset who tries to hide his earlier ignorance. Despite Cryos' warnings about the power of the Beast, Ramset still insists on the superiority of the Sun People. He gesticulates like a prize bodybuilder. Graveheart says they have to find the telepod. "Oooh, the sun disk" responds Ramset. It's in the central pyramid of the city. People used to worship it, a frightful bore to Ramset. Zuma grunts and turns toward the pyramid. Graveheart instructs Jade and Zera to accompany Zuma. He and Cryos will organize the planet's defence.

Jade and Zera stand in the telepod. Nothing happens. The sand must have damaged it. Jade runs off to get the sonic cannon. Zuma growls, followed by a melodic tone. Above them, Blokk revels in what he is going to do with the planet. Zuma leads Zera off to one of the beehive-like buildings set against a sand wall. They go in and stand on the edge of a large and deep hole. Zuma goes into a trance and her eyes glow. On a spiral staircase on the inside of the hole, other Sand People stand in a trance.

Zera and Zuma reach the bottom of the stairs. Zera rhetorically tells Zuma to do something. Zuma turns to her and "speaks". "Very well child". Zera is terrified. Zuma telepathically speaks to the other Sand People of the bravery of the Alliance. After centuries of waiting, it is now time for them to act. The other hold their arms up to the daylight at the top of the shaft. The floor trembles and a snaking column of sand swooshes up. Where the sand was is now a cavern.

The Beast drones attack in force. Ramset orders the city closed. The two halves of the main structure are manually pulled together by long teams of Sand People. Some drones get into the city before it closes. Zera runs after Zuma and finds herself at the edge of a vast space. The World Engine is at the centre, seemingly unreachable. Zuma instructs Zera to step forward and not be afraid. After some persuasion, Zera takes a tentative step. She finds she can stand on nothing. Zera runs toward the World Engine.

Beast drones attack inside the closed city. Jade and Graveheart fight them but a few head for the World Engine. Zera downs three drones in quick succession, twirling her gun like a gunslinger. Another drone fires at Zera - on target but the energy bolts are deflected. A drone zooms past Zera, her weapon is out of energy. Zuma assures her that the drone will not reach its target. The drone suddenly stops and is thrown back. Each advance is repelled. Zuma explains they cannot do any harm but they can do other things. The drone is forcefully guided back up the shaft where Graveheart despatches it, "Gotcha!".

Up above, Pyrus and squadrons of inferno dogfight with Beast Marauders.

Zera arrives at the World Engine and orders the computer online, and to engage World Engine. Zera informs Pyrus of what is happening and that they should back off. Pyrus asks Zera if she has a licence to drive. Zera glares upward. Up goes the atmospheric integrity shield. Blokk thinks the Alliance are fleeing. The planet is theirs. The Beast Marauders swoop to the planet. As the engines fire, Blokk realizes the World Engine has deployed and orders retreat.

Ramset brags about sending the Beast packing, adding the Sun People will be a fine addition to the Alliance. Graveheart accepts the honour, considering what the people just did. Zuma messages that they have much to learn from each other. Realizing Graveheart is referring to the Sand People, Ramset nervously asks about the Sun People. Graveheart wryly concedes their inclusion. Laughter from the ensemble as Ramset broods and crosses his arms.

Cryos congratulates Zera on her initiative, seeing what they did not see and acting on her feelings.

girls night out

P lanet Ice. Jade and The Lady Zera spar with practice staff. Zera's enthusiasm is greater than her fighting skills. She is constantly out-manouvered by Jade and takes many falls. She promises to get Jade the next time. "In battle there is no next time," stresses Jade. Graveheart appears above and walks down the steps to the pair. He stresses that Zera is only a child. Bad move. Jade refuses to ease up and Zera is insulted at being called a child. At that moment, there is a distant explosion. They run off to see what it is.

In a nearby laboratory, Princess Tekla sits against a wall where she was blown by the force of an explosion. Voxx hovers over the table where it occurred. "Success ratio at zero percent," states Voxx matter-of-fact. The trio arrive as Tekla gets up and brushes off the debris. Her experiment fared worse. Jade is upset that Tekla risked blowing them all up and is held back by Graveheart.

Graveheart asks what Tekla was doing. She was adapting the telepod to create a force field generator. Jades exclaims it's nonsense. There is a creak and grinding - all of them rise slowly off the ground. Nearby Zuma floats serenely in the air. At Graveheart's shout, Zuma stops communicating with her kindred and they all fall to the ground. Despite Zuma's explanation of loneliness, Jade is even more annoyed. Zera confronts Jade but she is in no mood to listen. Jade swipes Voxx away from her face. A grand argument ensues until Graveheart shouts "Enough!"

Graveheart thinks they have been pushing too hard and that they should take some R&R. A chance to relax and get to know each other. In a rare display of humour, Jade suggests Lamprey has taken over Graveheart's body. Zuma says she left her world to learn new ways and this may be a good opportunity to bond. Jade is put in charge to find a fun quiet place.

Below the planet surface Pelvus listens to the distant rantings of Emperor Femur via a communicator. Pelvus mimics his boss and throws the communicator to the floor. Tekla, Jade, Graveheart and Zera arrive to the spectacle of Pelvus jumping up and down on the communicator. Zera suggests that Pelvus too needs some R&R. Jade thinks they have lost their minds. Zera has to plead with Jade to include Pelvus.

The party take off from Ice in an Arrowhead and head for a battle moon. Pelvus is enthralled and claps his hand on Jade's shoulder as she pilots the craft. Her right hand swings back and Pelvus crumples to a heap on the cabin floor. Pelvus is not deterred and is thrilled to be bonding with the ladies. It makes him feel so macho. Zera asks where they are going. Jade replies, "The Moon Over Mayhem." Pelvus gulps with less enthusiasm.

Outside the bar, the doorman disposes of two unruly quarriors. "Over here boys" says a sexy voice. A long shadow is all they can see. They round the corner thinking it's their lucky night. It's Lamprey, who quickly disposes of them. "So many warriors, so little time." Behind her are a band of beast drones.

The Arrowhead lands in a huge hangar. There are few spaces left. As they land, Tekla is playing with her telepod experiment. Zera tells her off. Above them, Lamprey looks around and sees that one bomb can cause a lot of destruction. The party leave the Arrowhead, Jade warning the others to stay close. It's a rough place.

A band of igneous knights confront Jade. She has taken the parking spot of their captain. Jade will not move. The leader grabs Jade's arm. He dismisses Jade's warning and is thrown into his comrades, making a pile on the ground. Jades turns to her group and affirms her statement that this place is fun. As they walk away, the knights shout that it's not over. Zera turns and tells them they can be found at "The Moon Over Mayhem". The group head off but are spotted by Lamprey. Lamprey holds back the beast drones. She wants Tekla's suffering to be as great as her humiliation before The Beast.

Back on Planet Ice, Graveheart is just finding out from Femur where they have gone. He's aghast. He rushes off to find them before it's too late.

The R&R group head toward the bar. Tekla askes Jade why she has so much anger. Jade brushes her off. They arrive at the bar and are met by the doorman. He knows Jade and looks at Zera. "Babysitting?" The doorman blocks their way. They must leave all weapons at the door. Jade and Tekla deposit one weapon each. Pelvus deposits his arsenal, including the voodoo doll of Femur. When Zuma tries to enter, the doorman insists animals must be on a lease. Zuma lifts the doorman off his feet. "We are not an animal, we are zumanbeing." "Right, whatever you say."

They enter the crowded bar and there is silence. A quarrior thumps the jukebox and revelry continues. A quarrior at the bar foolishly calls Jade "hot stuff" and is met with a fist. The barman gives Jade a mineral water "On the house." At the entrance, the band of igneous knights walk in. The captain is particularly annoyed, having found it difficult to find parking. They spot Jade and company.

The R&R group find a table. Zera wants to check out the games room. Jade gives the OK, then convinces Pelvus to stay with Zera by a sharp tug on his chin fronds. Pelvus chases after Zera with a nervous "Yoo Hoo!" Tekla and Jade are left at the table.

In the games room, Zera cues up for the local variety of billiards. She takes her first shot but the ball is picked up by one of the igneous knights. He goads Zera, then eats the ball. Fighting starts. Zera's practice pays off and she holds off the knights. She grabs some of the billiard balls and throws them with her second set of arms. A knight falls. Pelvus is also under attack. He decks a knight with a handy wall ornament.

The captain and another knight stand on the level above the bar, looking down on Jade and Tekla. They turn to go down to confront the duo but walk straight into Lamprey, who disposes of them. "Nobody slays Tekla but me."

Tekla asks Jade why she has hated her since the day they met. Jade replies, that day Tekla tried to destroy her. Tekla points out she was possessed by Lamprey. Then there were the battle moons says Jade. Tekla said she made a mistake aligning with Femur. She could see Jade's point of view. Tekla said that if she showed trust in Jade, Jade would learn to trust her. Tekla takes a green data crystal from her holster. It contains all the Alliance access codes. She offers it to Jade but Jade baulks. It is too much power for one. Tekla says that all believe in her and she is worthy of it. Jade grudgingly accepts the gift. They start to swop yarns.

Outside the bar, the doorman won't let Graveheart in. They don't serve miners(!). Suddenly an energy bolt zips past. Graveheart turns to face beast drones. He steps behind cover as the drones blast through the wall of the bar. Jade and Tekla dive for cover. Lamprey floats down from above searching for Tekla. Tekla picks up her experimental telepod and stands up to face Lamprey. Jade grabs the telepod and clips it to her belt. She vaults over the table and tackles Lamprey. She floors Lamprey with two kicks. The force field generator works. Lamprey and Jade go at it. Jade does a classic wipe of the bar with Lamprey.

Voxx fires at an approaching beast drone which explodes. Zuma levitates a table into another. Zera vaults over a beast drone, trips it with her staff then despatches it with a blow to its containment unit. Pelvus has a bomb up his sleeve. Well, one disguised as a button on his sleeve. He activates it and throws it at a beast drone. He turns to face one of the igneous knights who is more interested in seeking retribution for the parking than fighting the Beast. Lamprey extends her claws and swipes at Jade. She misses but destroys a column. The ceiling collapses and Lamprey is buried.

Graveheart joins the R&R group who are propping up the bar and rolling in laughter. Graveheart blames Jade for the mess. Tekla replies that it was Lamprey who was trying to destroy them. Zera adds that Zuma checked the debris but could not find Lamprey. Graveheart asks where Pelvus is. Zera points to a figure-shaped hole in the wall. "Ladies and gentlemen, Pelvus has left the building."

timebomb

T he Alliance fleet approaches a distant sun and planet (Planet Jungle), under attack from Beast Marauders. Jade and Graveheart fight the Beast in Bladewings. Aboard the Aurora cruiser, Emperor Femur thinks of nothing but running away. On Graveheart's signal the cruiser makes a hard turn and heads back at the Beast fighers. The Bladewings, Inferno and Bone fighters swoop from above. Only one drone escapes. Femur falls to the floor from the ceiling as the g forces from the cruiser's turn fade.

Despite the victory, the Beast Planet is not far behind. King Cryos says that the planet ahead must be warned of the Beast's approach. Princess Tekla completes a scan of the planet - no sentient life present. It has a world engine however. Femur breaks into the conversation. He has one of his patented "brilliant ideas". Groans all around. Femur expands his plan, to turn the planet into a booby-trap. Graveheart sees the potential of making the world engine explode inside the Beast. Praise from Cryos to Femur.

Graveheart runs through the items they will need. Explosives (volunteered by Femur), drilling equipment (already on board the Strata) and surveying vehicles (ice mites). Graveheart asks if anyone has qualms about sacrificing this world. Nobody is keen, but there is little choice.

As Graveheart predicts, Blokk has drones on the way. His drones have taken heavy losses but once again, he predicts before Voyd that the Alliance will fall.

The Strata reaches the planet surface and they find it is covered in plant life. It's a surprise since they detected no life. The Strata touches down in a clearing created by the exhaust of the thrusters. On landing, the cargo bay doors open and an Arrowhead flies out to survey the planet, followed by armed quarriors who secure the perimeter. Cryos is taken aback by the beauty of the planet. Femur quips they could do with a good gardener. Jade strides past and suggests they get to work.

Graveheart instructs Tekla and Zuma to find the telepod which they can use to teleport the explosives. They should all look out for signs of sentient life. He instructs Jade and Femur to oversee the drilling, which is a backup if the telepod is not found. That plan sputters when Femur moves to fondle Jade and is promptly thrown to the ground. Femur is to go with Graveheart and Cryos. As they set out, purple flowers follow their moves.

The ice mites walk between the large trees. Femur relaxes on top of one until a branch clobbers him. Something does not feel right to Graveheart. Purple flowers watch from above. The ice mites eventually bog down in the vegetation and they continue on foot. Not in Femur's plan but he tags behind. He kicks a grenade to the ground. The blast surprises Graveheart and Cryos, throwing them to the ground. Femur ignores the complaints. He was just making sure his bombs work. Graveheart manages to cut off Cryos before he can reach the reptile. Femur babbles away and sees too late the plant tendrils circling. He is grabbed and whisked into the foliage.

Jade supervises the quarriors who guide a mule dozer into place. She is uneasy but sees nothing in the bushes. They put the sonic cannon into place and clear the area. On detonation, a sizeable hole is blasted into the surface. As they survey it, Jade gets a warning from the Aurora that the Beast armada is on the way. Jade orders increased power to the cannon to speed things up.

Tekla, Zuma and Voxx search for the telepod. Zuma comments that the planet teems with life. Tekla points out that it's plant life. Zuma replies that the Sun People thought the Sand People primitive but that was not true. Voxx interrupts - telepod technology detected. They set off on foot and find the overgrown telepod. Voxx cuts away some of the foliage with his energy beam. Suddenly Zuma feels a sense of pain and loss. She says she's needed elsewhere and walks off. Tekla walks on to the telepod and reappears deep inside the planet.

Graveheart and Cryos chase after the distant shouts of Femur. They stop briefly while Jade warns of the approaching Beast. "Great, what else could go wrong?" invites Graveheart. The foliage before them starts to shake violently as though a gale were blowing. They run in the opposite direction. Cryos disappears among the flailing leaves. Graveheart manages to hold on to a branch. The turmoil ceases. As it happens, they are closer to Femur than they think.

Tekla orders the world engine computer online but there is no response. Voxx turns on its illumination and they find themselves below a matrix of plants. Voxx states that the engine is beyond repair. Tekla realizes the world cannot be saved. At that moment, plant tendrils wrap themselves around Tekla and Voxx. Both are disarmed.

Meanwhile, Femur is hanging up in the trees above an ominously opening plant. Graveheart aims his sonic cannon and orders Femur to stay still. Zuma arrives in time to stop Graveheart firing. Zuma says that Femur is not in danger. Plant tendrils circle Zuma's arms and lift her into the air. Zuma is feeling the planet's life. The planet is alive.

The plant tendrils move into the drilling area. Jade orders the quarriors to beat them off. Graveheart communicates to her just in time not to harm the plant life. Jade is not enthusiastic with the idea as machinery is toppled.

Graveheart talks to the "planet". "Oh great, we come in peace" says Femur sarcastically (still held aloft). The plant life speaks through Zuma. Graveheart explains the situation with the Beast and their original plans. Cryos hears from Tekla that the world engine is destroyed. They can escape but the planet cannot. The plant asks if there is hope. Cryos says none. The plant asks that they be taken with them. Cryos replies they do not have the room. The purple flowers move together as if in conference. The plants reply that the Alliance must leave to escape the Beast. Femur is dropped to the ground and all head back to the Strata.

Tekla informs Jade that further drilling is not required. They can use the telepod. Femur supervises installation of explosives in the world engine. He starts the detonator timer and they all teleport back to the surface. All the equipment is hurriedly loaded. Femur waddles up at the rear and is snagged by a tendril. Zuma asks on behalf of the plants that Femur take a cutting. If one plant survives so do all. Femur is not keen about being a "daddy".

Back on the Aurora, they watch as the Beast Planet reaches Planet Jungle. The world claw opens, grips the planet and retracts. Time is up and the planet explodes. There is a huge fireball and the Beast is hidden in smoke and debris. The smoke clears. The Beast Planet is still there. A tear runs down Tekla's cheek. They have failed. All but Femur are sad and depressed. "Remember, as long as there's life there's hope." Femur walks off caressing his floral charge as if it were a baby.

Embers of the Past

K he Alliance is under attack from Beast Marauders. The Beast is making a concerted effort to prevent the Alliance from entering a nebula where the Beast Armada sensors will be useless. Jade is upset that the Inferno fighters of Fire have broken ranks. She and Prince Pyrus exchange words. When the fighters return to base on a battle moon, Pyrus chases after Jade to find what she meant. Jade thought the performance of the Inferno was sloppy. They need to spend time training with Jade's quarriors. Pyrus is indignant and storms off past Graveheart without a glance.

Pyrus returns to his palace on a battle moon. Graveheart finds him there in the Throne Room. After a few words about Jade, Pyrus reflects on the situation of his people, without a planet and seemingly second-class citizens of the Alliance. The late Grand Vizier would not have put up with it. Pyrus misses his presence greatly. Pyrus gazes at an image of the Vizier in the flames above a lava pool. Graveheart points out that the people of Fire are the planet, wherever they may be.

In a Command Centre on one of the Battle Moons, Lord Mantel appears on the communicator screens. He's looking for the "exile", Graveheart. King Cryos informs him that Graveheart is not around, and could he be of help? Mantel considers the venture into a cloud nebula foolish. Princess Tekla interjects with a graphic that shows how they can align the security grids of the Alliance to traverse the nebula. The Beast will not be able to follow. Mantel rejects Cryos' comments, considering him to be treacherous.

Graveheart and Cryos stand on the bridge of the Aurora. They prepare to enter the nebula. Jade announces that an unknown object is approaching from the rear. It appears to be a planet. "Planet Fire?" exclaims Pyrus.

The Alliance leaders conference at the Round Table on Planet Ice. Cryos agrees the planet does seem to be Planet Fire. Graveheart suggests they check it out. Lord Mantel agrees via the communicator. He wants to get the refugees from Fire off his world. Tekla proposes putting a search party together. Emperor Femur reminds them that the Beast is in hot pursuit. Cryos reluctantly agrees. Graveheart is not certain. Pyrus is adamant they check out the planet to see if it is habitable. He notes that Fire was sacrificed to save Planet Ice. Cryos understands.

Pyrus and Graveheart arrive at Planet Fire in a Bladewing. After setting foot on the planet, Pyrus' opinion is that it looks like Fire, but there is something missing. The ground shakes with tremors from below. A fissure appears close to the pair. They head off to the telepod to check out the World Engine. As they stand in the engine, a voice from behind. It's the Grand Vizier. Pyrus rushes to embrace him.

The Vizier relates that Planet Fire was too strong for the Beast Planet. As it was drawn in, the World Engine started up and the planet was able to break away. The Vizier followed the Alliance's energy trail. The planet however is dying. The Vizier insists that the planet must be repaired. Graveheart is sceptical. Pyrus tells the Vizier that his people have re-established themselves and their lives on the battle moons. The Vizier re-asserts they must return to Fire.

On return to Planet Ice without the Vizier, Graveheart seeks out Cryos. He's got the comm system working on Fire, and brought back a sample of soil for Tekla to analyze. Perhaps there is a way to rekindle the core of Fire. Cryos shows Graveheart on a navigation display that they cannot stop. The Beast is close.

Lord Mantel communicates with Pyrus, who is also back on Planet Ice. Mantel announces that he and the Vizier have made an agreement. Pyrus is taken aback. Mantel has made his entire fleet available to take the people of Fire to the planet. Pyrus tells him they aren't ready, but it's too late. Mantel has told the people of Fire and embarkation is under way. Pyrus is dumbfounded.

Pyrus returns alone to Fire in an Inferno. He finds the Vizier at the World Engine and asks why the agreement was made with Mantel. The Vizier and Pyrus do not agree on where the people of Fire should be. The Vizier insists his plan his right. Pyrus returns to the surface. Shortly after, Graveheart appears on the communicator seeking Pyrus, but the Vizier says Pyrus is not there and he has no idea where. The Vizier tells him to go away.

Back on Planet Ice, Graveheart tells Cryos that something is not right. It's not just the Vizier's "charming" personality. Gravehearts proposes to tell Mantel to hold the evacuation. It's too late - Mantel has cut off communication and the evacuation is in progress. Tekla appears on the communicator and says she has something they need to see, right away. Planet Fire is not what it appears to be.

In Tekla's laboratory, Voxx finishes scanning the soil sample that Graveheart brought back and the sample that Pyrus had when they abandoned the planet. There are discrepancies. The new sample is not from Planet Fire. Graveheart tells Jade to prepare and Bladewing to go to the planet.

On the surface of Fire, Pyrus scoops up a handful of soil. The Vizier asks if it is as he remembered. Pyrus is not certain. The Vizier says that soon the planet will soon teem with life, as they await the coming of the.....Beast! The Vizier gazes up as a squadron of Beast Marauders swoop across the sky.

Jade and Graveheart are some way off when they get a distress call from the transport fleet. The fleet is under attack. Graveheart knows that Pyrus would want them to save his people. They turn the Bladewing toward the fleet. The Aurora cruiser has also headed in that direction.

On Planet Fire, Pyrus points and accuses the "Vizier" of not being the Vizier. The "Vizier" says he and the "planet" are by-products of the Beast learning and absorbing from all it devours. The "planet" and "Vizier" are to become the instrument of Pyrus' destruction. The "Vizier" strikes the ground with his staff and a fissure appears, heading for Pyrus. Pyrus jumps to the side. The "Vizier" gazes into the abyss. "Where there was once fire, now only null matter exists". At that moment, Graveheart arrives and fires the Bladewing's energy cannon at the "Vizier". The "Vizier" is knocked over, his staff flying through the air. It lands point-first and a new fissure appears. The ground parts under the "Vizier" and he falls. He manages to catch the edge.

Pyrus steps up to the edge. The "Vizier" tries to pull on his heartstrings. Pyrus' old friend has already perished. He has no feeling for the "Vizier" and coldly turns away. The "Vizier's" grip finally fails and he falls into the null matter below. There is a huge explosion. Pyrus is thrown through the air on to the ground. He requests help from Graveheart as his Inferno was swallowed in the explosion. "Nowhere to go but up", announces Graveheart. The Bladewing appears trailing a cable. Pyrus grabs it and is swept away from the crumbling "planet".

"Planet Fire" implodes then explodes. The shockwave blasts the Beast and Alliance fleets. Many of the Beast's nearby Grimm Armada are destroyed. The Alliance fairs better due to greater distance. Once space clears, the Alliance heads for the nebula.

On the Bladewing, Graveheart asks if the pensive Pyrus is OK. He's glad to have memories, but it's time to stop looking back and start to move on to a better future. They disappear into the cloud nebula.

Divided We Stand

J ade and Graveheart stand back to back, surrounded by attacking Beast drones. They blast away and all are destroyed. Graveheat turns and says they make a great team. "Do we?" asks Jade and fades to red. She recedes and a brick wall starts building between her and Graveheart. Graveheart jumps on to the base of the wall and pounds at it with his bare hands. "Jade, don't shut me out, Jade....."

At that moment Graveheart wakes from his dream. He must talk to Jade so goes to her room and bangs on the door. The door suddenly opens and Jade appears with her blaster. She thinks some emergency is in effect. Graveheart meekly explains he just wanted to talk. He apologizes for waking Jade and walks away. Jade grabs his arm and swings him back. Their heads move together for a kiss. "Hey, what's with all the commotion?" Emperor Femur. Deducing what was going on, he encourages the pair to continue. Jade is ready to rip his head off but Graveheart blocks her path. Femur retreats. As Graveheart leaves, Jade suggests if there is another time, to knock quietly.

In the Command Centre on Planet Ice, an unidentified object is being tracked. For now it is to be treated with caution. As Jade gets into her combat gear, King Mantel appears on the communicator. He notes that the Alliance fleet has slowed. Jade is unaware of this. Mantel instructs her to inform him why as soon as she can. Jade tells him this is not part of their bargain. She pulls out the green data crystal containing the Alliance access codes in her hand. She ponders for a moment.

Jade joins the others in the Command Centre. King Cryos relates what they know of the object. As their scanners cannot determine what it is, Princess Tekla suggests it must have advanced technology. Cryos adds that it may prove useful against the Beast. He suggest they investigate. Graveheart splits the group into two shifts. Femur is not included and protests. Prince Pyrus offers his place, much to Jade's annoyance. A Bladewing with Graveheart and Cryos, and an Arrowhead with Jade and Femur set out from Ice.

The fighters approach the object and split up. Femur is his usual frisky self with Jade. Threats and a clenched fist from Jade redirect Femur's gaze. They find the object is some sort of technological complex on a planetoid. They guide the Arrowhead toward the protective dome on the surface. Femur has serious second thoughts and tries to get Jade to turn back. It appears Femur has some idea of what it is. Cryos also realizes what the place could be, but does not reveal it to Graveheart. A battle of sorts appears to be taking place on the surface.

A cannon on the surface fires at the Arrowhead, disabling it and sending it hurtling toward the surface. The craft plunges through the protective shield. It hits a control tower on the ground, then headlong across paving. Graveheart sees communications cease and fears the worst. The Arrowhead comes to a halt. Jade drags Femur from the wreckage. When Femur gathers himself, he goes into a tirade of whining. Jade ignores him and heads off to find Graveheart and Cryos. She stops and Femur catches up. They find themselves surrounded by armed warriors. The leader is a Bone Warrior labelled with a barcode. As they are taken prisoner, Jade throws down her helmet. The Knight seems to recognize Femur. Femur is in denial.

Graveheart steers the Bladewing down. They burst through the protective shield but are also struck by cannon fire. They hit the ground at speed. The Bladewing come to a halt partly over a sheer drop. Graveheart and Cryos exit to safe ground. The Bladewing falls into the abyss. They set out for the buildings below where they stand, to find Jade and Femur. Turning a corner they are met by an armed group. The leader, an Ice warrior of sorts, tells them to freeze. He recognizes Cryos. Graveheart is angered and throws the warrior through the air. The others converge on Graveheart but he puts them all down.

A female voice from above. Graveheart looks up to see a black and white warrior. She jumps down to them, stands and levels her gun. Graveheart drops the two warriors he was holding. He tells the woman to look behind. She turns to find Cryos holding a gun to the head of a warrior. Tables turned she introduces herself as Jewelia. They thought Cryos and Graveheart were Sternum's men. Graveheart asks who Sternum is. A criminal according to Jewelia. Cryos exclaims that this is the Prison Planet. "May the Glacier preserve us."

They go to a storage facility. Graveheart breaks the conversation with Jewelia and walks with Cryos. Cryos tells him about the history of the planet, built to contain the worst criminals. Jewelia appears again before them, saying that not all are prisoners. Jewelia also claims her craft crashed on the planet. She has tried to bring order from chaos. Graveheart is uneasy. He wants to find Jade and Femur. Jewelia says that if Sternum has them, they are dead. Graveheart insists on searching, Jewelia insists she come along. Graveheart and Cryos exchange glances.

Graveheart eventually finds Jade's helmet. No bodies. Jewelia dismisses the possibility they are alive. Graveheart disagrees. Jewelia's only answer is to fight Sternum. Explosions rip around them. Sternum's men have found them. A firefight ensues. Graveheart tries to get the other side to hold fire for parley but is shot at. After some time, Sternum's men retreat. Graveheart and Cryos are inclined to accept Jewelia's view of Sternum.

Back on Planet Ice, all communication has been lost. That means the craft have crashed. Tekla and Pyrus are aghast. The communicator switches to Mantel, demanding to know the problem. Jade tells of the loss of contact. Mantel insists he take control. Tekla refuses. She was left in charge. Mantel dismisses the capabilities of Tekla and Pyrus. Tekla stands firm.

Pelvus enters as the argument with Mantel continues. Mantel knows something of the unidentified object but will not say. If they hand over control he will advise. Pyrus backs up Tekla's authority. He heads off past Pelvus to fly a rescue mission. Tekla ignores Mantel.

Meanwhile, the Jade and Femur party arrive at Sternum's headquarters. By this time, Jade has turned the tables on her captors. They are now her prisoners. Jade shouts up to be let in. Sternum, a lizard like Femur, surveys with binoculars. He orders his men punished for incompetence, and "Put that toad in the hole." The woman to be brought to him.

Jade is brought before, or rather behind, Sternum. He has questions. She introduces herself as Jade, Commander, Cobalt Class. Femur is festering in jail, blubbering to himself. He fears someone he knows on the planet may still be alive and he may be found out.

Jade and Sternum circle each other. Both demanding answers of the other. They jockey for position and wrestle. The confrontation ends in mutual respect for the other warrior. A draw. Sternum explains he controls half of the planet, Jewelia the other half. Jade tells of Graveheart and Cryos. Sternum states that if Jewelia found them, they are dead.

Above the Prison Planet, Pyrus arrives in his Inferno. He sees the battle below but then it stops. He reports back to Tekla that he's going in for a closer look. He looks to the Prison Planet. It shimmers and dissolves from sight.

nor iron bars a cage

T he search for Graveheart, Jade, King Cryos and Emperor Femur continues without success. There seems to be no rational explanation of how they disappeared on a routine mission. Princess Tekla and Prince Pyrus lead the search. As Tekla is receiving more bad news, Lord Mantel appears on the communicator. He demands their immediate presence. Pyrus is incensed but Tekla agrees to come. She is trying to do what Graveheart would do in any situation. She is also optimistic that Mantel's attitude may have changed. They divert to Planet Rock.

In the Great Hall of Planet Rock, Mantel informs Tekla and Pyrus that he has assumed leadership of the Alliance. Pyrus protests that the missing leaders are just that - missing. Tekla adds that they expect to be treated with respect. At that moment, a familiar voice from above. It's Pelvus floating around in a chair balloon. "Presenting...Pelvus, Emperor of Bone." Pelvus offers Mantel the allegiance of Planet Bone, and crashes to the floor.

Mantel demands they accept the situation as he sees it. Pyrus is furious and draws his fighting staff. Tekla interrupts, asking for Mantel's help in the search. She tells that Zuma has returned to join her kindred on Planet Sand. They will send out a psychic beacon to locate the missing group. Mantel will only help if given command of the Alliance. "Now be gone!"

Pyrus and Tekla return to Planet Ice. They are unhappy with recent developments but are reassured that there are safeguards in place to protect the Alliance. On Planet Rock, Mantel caresses the data crystal that Tekla gave to Jade.

On Planet Prison, Femur is ranting in his cell. Flailing at the cells wall makes no impression. The door suddenly opens and Femur is whisked out. He looks up at the surrounding group of Sternum's guards. He is dragged off by one of the ex-Bone warriors.

Sternum is having fight practice with his men. One by one he sends them flying with his staff. Jade walks up from behind and belittles Sternum's efforts. The two spar and talk. Jade wants to know if Graveheart and Cryos have been found, and what of Femur? Sternum casts dispersions on her relationship with Femur and cannot see value of such a coward. Jade bluntly states her dislike of him but he is part of the Alliance against the Beast planet. Some quick moves and Jades pins Sternum to the floor. She enquires his opinion of her. "A challenge."

At that moment Femur is dragged in. Femur recognizes Sternum and tries to run. A guard swings him around by the scruff of the neck and tosses him at Jade's feet. He demands Jade shoot them all and Sternum in particular. Sternum interjects, "Femur, Femur, is that any way to talk about your own dear loving...brother?" Jade's expression goes blank. She slaps Femur away.

Sternum points his staff at Femur, clearly intent on harm. Jade parries his thrust. Sternum breaks the deadlock by suggesting he show why "this worm" deserves to suffer. They descend via express elevator to the depths of the complex. Sternum pushes Femur out on to a walkway, one of many stacked about each other. Cell Block 16 of the prison. One of fifty others. "Welcome to my nightmare." Femur's seen enough but Sternum is not done with him.

Sternum takes them on a tour, telling of the history and brutality of the institution. A door opens and the torture room is revealed. Sternum has flashbacks to time spent there. He asks if Femur wants a demonstration. Declined. Sternum recounts his hardships while Femur ruled Bone. Femur makes the mistake of dismissing the cruelty of life in the prison. Sternum picks him up and holds him over the railing and the drop below. Femur begs and is given a temporary reprieve.

The tour enters a tunnel where Sternum found the world engines and salvation. This discovery and Sternum's subsequent prisoner revolt took control of his destiny. Jade replies they have world engines too. Sternum says that these are different. They can teleport anywhere.

On the other side of the Planet Graveheart, Cryos starts to talk to Graveheart but Jewelia arrives and breaks in. She asks Graveheart what he thinks as he cradles a rifle. Graveheart is impressed with their arsenal but is uncertain about attacking Sternum. Jewelia points out that it is Graveheart who believes Jade is still alive. She asks Cryos' opinion. He's not concerned about this planet's affairs, he's concerned about the stars. They have changed. It appears the planet has moved. Graveheart is taken aback. Jewelia curses Sternum, who must have used the teleport engines.

Later, Cryos tries again to talk with Graveheart but Jewelia appears as before. Cryos asks about a previous ruler of Planet Bone, Emperor Sternum. Jewelia sidesteps the question and says they must go on their raid. Cryos bails, complaining he has not recovered from the crash. Jewelia is angry as she and Graveheart depart. Out of sight, Cryos grabs one of Sternum's guards, an ex-Ice warrior, for a quiet "chat".

As the attack force approaches Sternum's fortress, Graveheart asks how Jewelia knew Sternum was planning another attack. She claims that he teleports before an attack on another world and disappears before retaliation. She claims they have tried to stop him but he controls all the technology. She gently grips Graveheart's drink bottle. By morning the planet will be Jewelia's and she will use the teleport to send Graveheart home.

Out in space, the Bladewing search party tracks new objects. Beast fighters. A wider scan reveals the oncoming Beast planet. Prince Pyrus thought they had shook the Beast. The Bladewings attack and destroy all but one fighter. Then the weapons of all the Bladewings go dead. The Beast fighter blasts one then retreats. Tekla orders them to return to the fleet. They turn about and find their main thrusters are dead too. Tekla's promise of help falls flat - the entire fleet is dead in space.

Tekla orders Voxx to scan and re-initiate the Alliance weapon codes. Voxx plugs into the data highway. Mantel appears on the communicator screen. "Your time is up." Tekla says they have more pressing matters. Mantel pointedly asks who is controlling their weapons. The truth strikes Tekla and Pyrus. Mantel demands control of the Alliance and closes transmission.

Tekla asks how Mantel got control. Pyrus suspects Pelvus. Tekla urges Voxx to hurry. A blinding flash and Voxx is thrown across the room. Voxx lies inactive. Tekla picks Voxx up and determines major repair is needed. She realizes Mantel must have booby-trapped the system. They have no choice but to surrender the Alliance to Mantel. Mantel appears on the communicator, impatient for a reply. Tekla accedes to his demands. He holds up the green data crystal and restores control to the fleet. Just in time for the seach Bladewings to destroy another Beast fighter.

After Mantel is gone, Tekla tells Pyrus that the crystal Mantel held up was the one she gave to Jade. It contained all the access codes for the Alliance defences. Tekla brings up an archive image on-screen. Jade and Graveheart. Jade with the crystal around her neck.

Jewelia's attack commences. As some of her troops are killed, Jewelia revels in their sacrifice. "Isn't it wonderful?" she says to Graveheart who clearly does not share the feeling. Graveheart jumps up and rushes the defenders. As he enters the buildings, he calls for Jade and Femur. Above him a door slides up revealing a sonic cannon. It decimates Jewelia's force. As the cannon sights on a sprawling Jewelia, Graveheart dives out from cover and throws a grenade. The cannon is silent.

Graveheart returns to Jewelia and picks her off the ground. She wants the attack to continue. Graveheart tells her the attack is failing. He orders retreat.

Far below, as they walk through the cell block, Sternum notes the irony that Femur stole his kingdom but he now rules another. Femur makes out he did Sternum a favour. Sternum swings Femur around and puts a pistol in his face. Once again Jade rescues Femur but it's for her own purposes. She points the pistol at him. "Permit me, I've wanted to kill this toad for a very long time."

death of a king

F emur grovels before Jade and begs for his life. He suggests Jade shoot Sternum instead. He is so pathetic that neither Jade nor Sternum can bring themselves to kill him. Sternum holsters his pistol. They have more important things to do. As Sternum walks off, Femur makes out that his grovelling was part of a clever plan by Jade to change Sternum's mind. Jade bluntly denies any such thing.

Sternum, Jade and Femur return to the planet surface to find the devastation from the battle. Sternum asks for Jade's help to fight Jewelia. Jade's duty is to the Alliance, and also to avenge the "deaths" of Graveheart and King Cryos. She agrees to help Sternum until she has revenge. Femur is horrified at having to stay on the planet. Whining as he walks, Femur suddenly disappears from sight down a deep hole.

Jade and Sternum assist the others in clearing debris. Femur turns up and tells Jade not to trust Sternum. Sternum grabs Femur and gives him a final warning. He throws Femur to the ground and walks off. Femur sits up with visions of circling cannoli. After recovering, he tells Jade of earlier times with Sternum. His story is that Sternum was afraid of him and had him lined up for execution. Femur's courage (bribery) won over Sternum's guards and he escaped. He fought a vicious battle with Sternum (poisoned his drink) and finally won. As a gesture of mercy he exiled Sternum to the Prison Planet. Jade is unconvinced.

Back on Ice, Princess Tekla and Prince Pyrus are trying to repair Voxx, badly damaged by Lord Mantel's booby trap. They are interrupted by the Lady Zera, who is more concerned about her father. Lord Mantel then interrupts over the communicator, telling Zera that her father is gone. He orders them to his Throne Room. Pyrus and Zera are incensed. Tekla says they're on their way. On the side she tells them that for present Mantel is in control. Zera reassures Tekla that the technicians on Planet Ice are the best for repairing Voxx.

They land on Planet Rock. Pyrus hands Tekla a force field generator, just in case. Mantel is his usual charming self, angry at being kept waiting. He and Pyrus exchange harsh words. Tekla asks the purpose of the summons. Mantel wants them to witness him crushing the Beast. Tekla questions how Mantel can fight the Beast when nothing has changed. He tells them that now the Beast Armada has been driven back, he can attack the Beast Planet. Pyrus replies it's a trick to drawn them in. Mantel is convinced they have retreated because they fear him. He intends to send all his battle moons in an all-out attack. Tekla is horrified.

Pyrus is furious. The inhabitants of Planet Fire are on one of the battle moons. Pyrus runs up the stairs towards Mantel but the guards fire at him and halt the charge. Mantel initiates the battle moon attack. The moons fire on the Beast Planet. Blokk looks on in amusement from his Abyss fighter. Blokk knows that once the moons are destroyed he can attack the Alliance planets.

On Planet Prison, Jewelia is recuperating from the earlier battle. She views recordings of the battle and revels in the fact that her men were willing to die for her. She puts her hand on Graveheart's, sweet-talking. She sits up and just wants to get back to the battle for power. She and Graveheart have very different missions.

Graveheart finds Cryos, who has obtained some blueprints from the former Ice warrior he "chatted with." Cryos realizes that Graveheart's mind is elsewhere - concerned with Jade and making Sternum pay for whatever he did to her. Cryos' first priority is to find the teleport engine. The conversation drifts to Jewelia but as in the past, Jewelia shows up at that moment. She sweet-talks Graveheart again, much to Cryos' disdain. Cryos explains his plan to use service tunnels to attack Sternum from below, coordinated with a decoy surface attack lead by Jewelia.

The attack commences. Sternum's troops are ready for them. A mobile sonic cannon is brought up. The same is happening deep underground. Graveheart has a sonic cannon break into the service tunnels. Sternum's sensors pick up the activities below. He will take the fight underground while Jade leads the fight on the surface. Femur offers to "check out the rear." Under threat from Sternum, Femur has to stay and guard Jade's back. Not far off, Jewelia surveys the enemy and spots Jade.

As Graveheart and Cryos walk underground, their conversation is halted by the appearance of Sternum. Cryos recognizes Sternum. Graveheart introduces himself defiantly. Graveheart and Sternum trade threats, then thrown weapons down and charge at each other for hand-to-hand combat. The opposing troops break into a firefight. Graveheart yells to Cryos to go and find the engines.

On the surface Jade orders a fall back to the central building. Femur runs off leaving Jade alone. As Jade retreats, Jewelia lines up her rifle sights. She fires but hits a girder as Jade runs.

Beast fighters swoop on Planet Rock. Drones are dropped to the surface and quickly overpower the quarriors. Many Arrowheads are destroyed before they can take off. Pyrus implores Mantel to bring back the battle moons, but that is the "coward's way." He also refuses Tekla's request to bring in the fleet. The Beast drones fight their way to the Throne Room. Mantel still refuses to recall the battle moons.

The Beast Planet brings its energy weapons to bear on the battle moons. Pyrus pleads with Mantel. Under the pressure of the drone attack, Mantel finally recalls the battle moons. Blokk lands on Planet Rock and makes his way to the Throne Room. He orders his drones to halt. He wants the Alliance leaders to live long enough to see his total victory. Mantel walks down to confront Blokk. Tekla grabs the force field generator and throws it to Mantel. Blokk and Mantel start to battle. Blokk jumps over Mantel. Mantel stabs with the points of his mace. They jam in the floor and Blokk steps on the mace, smashing it.

Mantel is thrown to the ground by Blokk. The vital data crystal is torn from his neck and skids across the floor. Blokk spots it, although he is unaware of what it is. Mantel picks up what is left of his mace, swings and smashes the crystal. The Alliance defence codes are safe. Blokk despatches Mantel with his claw. "The king is dead. Long live the Beast!"

The Long Road Home

I n the Great Hall of Planet Rock, Blokk stands beneath the burning banner of Rock. A screen is replaying the destruction inflicted by the Beast on the planet. He raises his claws in triumph.

Far away, help is coming from an unexpected source. The Sand People on Planet Sand, lead by Zuma, are generating a homing signal and sending it across the void of space. A signal that will allow Graveheart and his comrades to find their way back to the Alliance.

On Planet Prison, the situation is critical. Graveheart is in combat with Sternum; The Lady Zera, Princess Tekla and Prince Pyrus are in the hands of the Beast; Jade is leading the the defence against Jewelia; King Cryos is at large; Emperor Femur is doing his best to keep out of harm's way.

Despite his white flag, Femur finds himself running for his life. An explosion throws him through the air. He picks himself up and sees an exit door. He presses the open button. Before you can say "Holy Canoli", another weapon's blast sends Femur diving for cover. He runs through the remnants of the door...straight into an empty elevator shaft and down to the depths.

Sternum and Graveheart are both still standing. Sternum is not very interested in the fight, he wants Jewelia. Graveheart accuses Sternum of being a murderer (of Jade). Sternum replies he only kills out of necessity while Jewelia kills for sport. After more exchanged blows, Sternum reveals that Jade is alive. Graveheart is sceptical and is further incensed by Sternum revealing his relationship with Jade.

Jade, a Quarrior and an Igneous Knight are cautiously advancing. Behind Jade's back, her troops are ambushed. She turns to look and misses the appearance of Jewelia. She senses too late and is struck down by a blast from Jewelia's pistol. Jewelia squats down and prods Jade's chin with her pistol. Jade springs into action and sends Jewelia flying. Jade walks over to the sprawling Jewelia, "Fight now, beauty tips later!" Jade kicks Jewelia down to the ground. Jewelia finds a piece of pipe by her side and swings back, sending Jade to the ground. "Brains and brawn. Ooh, quite the modern woman."

As Jewelia moves in for another blow, Jade draws her pistol and fires. Jewelia dodges the shot and leaps behind cover. Jade is too quick and is on Jewelia before she can move. Jade grabs Jewelia by the throat but is not watching her own back. A sharp blow from behind by one of Jewelia's men and Jade is out for the count. Jewelia is angry that they took too long. She grabs the ex-Igneous Knight's rifle and cocks it. "You're fired." She shoots.

Jade awakes to find herself strung up by the hands on a chain. Jewelia is using her as bait. She taunts Jade by implying that she and Graveheart are more than just comrades. Jade does not bite.

Pyrus stands at the door of his cell, prodding uselessly at the energy grid. Tekla says that escape is impossible but Pyrus is determined. Zera wonders why they are still alive. "Because, you do not deserve a swift death," interjects Blokk. He promises them much suffering for his past humiliations.

Cryos is wandering alone, or so he thinks. He finds a command console and orders the computer online. The computer asks for a password. Cryos asks Graveheart, using his communicator, if he has found the access codes. No reply. Graveheart and Sternum have floored each other. When Cryos' call is heard, Graveheart is flat on his back. He turns his head toward his communicator but Sternum's foot stamps down on his wrist.

Deep below, "Cryos?" a voice calls. It's Femur. Femur runs up and hugs the surprised ice king. Cryos tries in his best diplomatic voice to be glad to see the reptile. Cryos explains what he is trying to do and his concern for Graveheart. Femur is less interested in the problems of others but suddenly remembers Sternum. They need to hurry.

Sternum points his pistol at Graveheart. Sternum senses victory and asks Graveheart what he would do if positions were reversed. Like any 'B' movie, platitudes are often followed by downfall. Graveheart kicks Sternum flying. Positions are now reversed, Graveheart stands with the pistol. Sternum demands Graveheart finish him. A pause, then Graveheart lowers the pistol. He offers Sternum his hand. "You're not my enemy." They agree to stop Jewelia. At that moment, Femur and Cryos appear. Graveheart is blasé about seeing Femur but overjoyed (as much as a miner can show) at seeing Cryos.

As they head back to the command console, the homing signal from Planet Sand arrives. Graveheart puts his hand to his head. Sternum looks at the throbbing red graphic on the console, "A beacon, the planet has just been scanned." Femur thinks it's Beast drones. Cryos rebukes him for the whining. Cryos realizes that the signal is from Planet Sand. It's the way home.

Cryos keys in the coordinates of the beacon but they still have a problem, no access code. Sternum will not provide it until Jewelia is stopped. Femur is back to gloom and doom. Graveheart offers to help defeat Jewelia if Sternum will take them back to the cluster. Agreed. Glee from Femur followed by a unanimous "Shut Up!" Over the intercom comes a threat from Jewelia, hand over control or Jade dies. One hour to decide.

Zera has also keyed on the signal from Sand and realizes it's from Zuma. Blokk demands to know what she means. Zera walks over to Blokk and tells him what for, ending with "...so they can kick your Beast butt." Pyrus steps forward and adds his venom. Blokk is beside himself with rage. He swings with his claw, which meets only the energy grid. The blast throws Blokk flying. The trio pick themselves up and vacate the cell.

Complete victory has been torn from Blokk's hands just as the Beast Planet arrives at Planet Rock. As Blokk revives, he can't believe he has been thwarted again. He swears revenge.

Zera, Tekla and Pyrus run for their lives pursued by Beast drones. A weapon blast sends Zera to the ground. Pyrus turns back to assist Zera. They look helplessly as a drone levels its weapons. In a flash, the drone turns round and they all return down the tunnel. Pyrus and Zera are dumbfounded, not knowing they were recalled to the Beast planet.

Jewelia taunts Jade, but Jade is sure Sternum will prevail (not knowing that Graveheart is still alive). A pistol blast richochets off a nearby pipe. Jewelia turns to face Sternum. Jade shouts a warning as Jewelia draws her pistol and fires. Sternum manages to leap behind cover. He fires as he falls, hitting Jewelia squarely. Jade's chains are shattered by a blast from Graveheart's pistol. Jade is overjoyed to see Graveheart and embraces him in a long kiss. Sternum looks on with grim acceptance.

Jewelia recovers from the blast and trades barbs with Sternum. She whistles and her warriors appear from cover. "Checkmate." A blue band whooshes across the sky. Jewelia's smirk disappears. Cryos has activated the teleport engines. Jewelia shouts at her troops who are running around in disarray. She turns to find herself looking down the barrel of Jade's pistol. Sternum orders Cryos to activate the telepods.

Amid the rumblings and arcing of the teleport engines, Femur clings for dear life to the back of Cryos. Cryos manages to pry Femur off. He looks at the communicator screen to see where they are re-materializing. Bad news. The Beast Planet appears among the static. "By the Great Glacier!" "Holy Canoli!"

Zera, Tekla and Pyrus reach the planet surface just as the last Beast drones are heading off. The Beast planet fills the sky. The World Claw opens up...over the Prison planet. Their only hope is the telepod. As they approach the telepod, someone is coming through it. Graveheart, Jade, Pyrus, Femur, Cryos, Sternum and Jewelia appear. Zera rushes forward to greet and embrace her father.

They look up at the Beast planet. The fate of Planet Prison is sealed. So will that of Planet Rock shortly after. Sternum has a solution, to teleport Planet Prison. His finger moves to the controls on his wristband. Graveheart grabs his arm before the button can be pressed. If the planet is teleported, it will be lost forever. It's that or nothing says Sternum.

The World Claw closes on Planet Prison. Sternum presses the button that starts the teleport of his home world. Planet Prison starts to dematerialize, together with the Beast planet which is in contact with it. The Alliance is saved but with the nagging question of where the Beast and Prison planets have gone. Jewelia butts in with her own platitude, and is promptly decked by Sternum's fist. They look to the sky (except the unconscious Jewelia) with lingering doubts.

EPTitle

P lanet Rock. A quarrior beats a slow lament on a drum. Quarriors are assembled around a dais on which lies the body of Lord Mantel, wrapped in the blue banner of Rock. At the foot of the steps stand the leaders of the Alliance. Graveheart is at the top of the dais. "We are gathered today to honour Lord Mantel of Rock, who sacrificed his life defending his world." Among the Alliance leaders, whispers of dissention about Mantel's treachery and ego. King Cryos suggests they leave their comments until later. A pyre is lit beneath the coffin. An honour guard fires off rifle volleys. Overhead, four Arrowheads transform into "missing man" formation. A moment of silence.

Away from the ceremony, a small group are watching on a small communicator. Behind them, a familiar shadow falls on stone - Blokk. As Blokk starts to deride Mantel's final moments, they swing round in horror. He boasts of what he is going to do to them all and strikes. He thrusts his claw into the monitor relaying Graveheart's speech. "Graveheart must die."

After the ceremony, the leaders are gathered. Femur blasts Graveheart for his excessive praise of Mantel. Jade grabs Femur by his fronds to silence him. Princess Tekla breaks in and accuses Jade of being complicit in Mantel's treachery. Prince Pyrus adds his venom, followed by agreement from The Lady Zera. Cryos chastises his daughter but she refuses to apologize. It was Jade who gave Mantel the Alliance control codes in the data crystal. Jade stands silent.

Pyrus demands Jade explain her actions but she refuses. Graveheart starts after a departing Jade. Pyrus points out to Graveheart that he was betrayed too. Graveheart says that Jade already told him what had happened. It was the only way she could get Mantel to bring the battle moons into the fight against Ramora. She was also Captain of the Guard. "His battle moons, our survival, my honour. I had no other choice" states Jade. The gathered start to understand Jade's actions.

Graveheart proposes that Jade be the next ruler of Rock. Tekla is horrified, as are the others. They all looked on Graveheart as being the true leader. Jade concurs. Cryos adds that Graveheart has too many other things to do. Jade agrees to go through the ascension ritual, The Foundation of the Soul. She must face and defeat her demons, or be destroyed. Femur adds,"Whatever happened to whack-a-guy-and-take-his-place?"

Quarriors open two huge doors. Jade walks to the next chamber and the doors are closed.

In the telepod, quarriors report to Captain Feldspar that all Beast drones have been eliminated. The planet is secure. A blinding flash of light and Blokk appears. Despite their immediate blaster fire, Blokk kills all but Feldspar. He wants to use Feldspar to get at Graveheart. He thrusts his claw into the engine mechanism.

Tekla reports that the planet is going off course and she gets no reply from the engine room. The local communicator screen crackles to life and Captain Feldspar appears. He starts to speaks but is dispatched by a blow from Blokk. He demands Graveheart or he will crash the planet into the nearest sun. On the surface of Rock, the sun is filling more and more of the sky. Quarriors evacuate on transporter ships.

Jade sits on the throne, bored. Lights and stars start to flash. One by one, illusions of her Alliance comrades appear, cutting at her with their comments. They chant in unison of her treachery. She shouts out, and Graveheart's image appears. The image taunts Jade, then takes the throne. Jade is provoked into telling "Graveheart" to get out. The image of a Beast drone appears and "Graveheart" is blasted. Jades screams out. She dives at the oncoming drones, flying straight through the illusion and falls to the floor by the throne. Graveheart's image appears again, followed by the others. This time, acclaiming Jade. Jade ascends the throne.

The doors of the Foundation Chamber open and Graveheart walks in. Jade is wearing the attire of the ruler of Rock. "Now I rule Rock" states Jade. "Congratulations, Your Majesty." Jade is embarrassed. Cryos rushes in to inform Graveheart of Blokk. Seeing Jade he falls to one knee in respect. Cryos explains what has happened.

Meanwhile, aboard the Clavicle, Pelvus is amusing himself with thoughts of being emperor for a day and fondles the crown. With Femur back, life can't get any worse. Wrong. Sternum's voice rings out. Pelvus falls down with a horrified squeak. Pelvus does his best grovelling act and achieves distraction when Sternum asks for cannolis. Sternum picks up Pelvus' voodoo doll of Femur and tosses it over his shoulder. With the cannolis, Sternum wants to know all about the Alliance. Pelvus passes out.

Pelvus recovers and is deep in thought. Femur arrives carrying the plant he inherited on Planet Jungle. Pelvus is so surprised he accidentally juggles the blaster he's cradling and it fires, decimating the waiting plate of cannoli. When Femur asks if the pistol was a welcoming present, Pelvus affirms it's for him to defend himself against Sternum. Femur puts Pelvus in the picture. Sternum forgave Femur on Planet Prison; could have killed him several times but did not. Femur believes Sternum, believes Sternum has changed, and that maybe it's time for him to change too. They head off to Sternum, with what's left of the cannolis.

Down in the World Engine, Blokk brags to himself. A flash from the telepod and Graveheart appears. It is clear that Blokk wants to kill Graveheart even if he dies too. Graveheart energizes the field generator he brought with him. They attack each other. Cryos, Tekla and Voxx arrive to get the systems online. With Voxx's help, control of the World Engine is restored. Cryos calls Jade who then orders full reverse. The planet trembles as it changes course.

Graveheart hits Blokk with a fearsome punch. Blokk is thrown through a slab and lands on a pipe running through the engine. Graveheart follows. The planet trembles again. Graveheart is thrown off the pipe but manages to cling to a fitting. As he struggles to get back on top, Blokk strides up. Blokk draws back his claw for the killing blow. Graveheart pulls the field generator off his belt. He swings round in the middle of Blokk's diatribe and plunges the generator in him. Blokk is thrown off the pipe but clings to Graveheart's gauntlet. The extra weight causes Graveheart's grip on the pipe to fail. Luckily the gauntlet slips off Graveheart's arm. Blokk falls down into the World Engine and is disintegrated. The gauntlet continues a lonely fall.

Jade sits on the throne before the gathered people of Rock and the Alliance. For her first act in power, she restores citizenship to Graveheart. "I bid you rise with honour, man of Rock." Graveheart turns to acknowledge the cheers of those below.

"I promise you, Your Majesty, I promise you all, the days of war between our planets are behind us. From this day forward, our worlds will work together to forge a new, and everlasting, peace. The threat of the Beast Planet is behind us forever."

Far, far away, all is not well in the galaxy.....but that is
for another time, another storyteller.
